Our History
Founded in 2003, FPD has played a key role in advocating for disability rights in Kenya. Our work has led to major legislative and policy milestones, including:
-
2003
We played a pivotal role in collaborating with the government task force to draft a bill that led to the enactment of the Persons with Disabilities Act in 2003.
This legislation has significantly improved access to education, employment, and economic opportunities for persons with disabilities across the country.
-
2003 - 2006
We collaborated with disabled persons organizations from across Africa and other like-minded groups at the UN Ad-Hoc Committee to develop the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Among our key contributions, we strongly advocated for the inclusion of affirmative action to promote equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.

During the formulation of the constitution in 2010, we lobbied hard for the inclusion of issues on persons with disabilities in several articles in the Constitution.
